November 2019 presentation on "Bean Pickers" by author Karen Hempson
 
At our November 4 meeting, we had a presentation by Karen Hempson, a retired college professor of social studies education. Ms. Hempson spoke about her book Bean Pickers, American Immigrant Portraits. The book focuses on first and second-generation Italian American immigrants in upstate New York, and their journeys from hamlets in Italy to the hard times of the Great Depression and World War II. September 2019 presentation by

John DiPasquale, WSYR-TV meteorologist

 

John DiPasquale, who is the meteorologist at WSYR-TV in Syracuse, gave an informative presentation after a delicious dinner at our September 17 meeting. John spoke about his Italian background, and shared his experiences as a meteorologist at WSYR-TV and other TV stations. John was made an Honorary CIAO member at the conclusion of his presentation. He was extremely grateful for the warm reception and friendship he experienced at the meeting. As promised, he thanked CIAO on the Sunday, September 22 evening news and shared this group picture which was taken after his presentation. Grazie John, you are always welcome at CIAO events!
